Two suggestions: 1) Make the FAQ and feedback pages appear with the regular menu at the top--I wanted to do an "Edit" and "Find" to see if my comments had been covered. Because these pages open in a window with no menu, I can't do it. So my comments may have been mentioned by someone already.
2) I need to delete files. I want to use this software with several friends. I need to be able to delete the files before each new conversation or they'll pile up too mu

I created a table on a whiteboard but couldn't write into the second cell. I got frustrated as it kept creating text boxes wherever I clicked. I couldn't figure out how the selection tool worked. The icons were non-intuitive. When I clicked the red X at the bottom right, did it log me out? It won't let me log back in under the user name I created 5 minutes ago. Privacy agreement is inadequate for business use.

I tried 3 different browsers: Safari, Opera 9.51 and iCab, on none of them it works as described. The whiteboard opens, TEXT-modus is selected, but whatever I try to click, there is no action performed: File, My skrbls, A, Pen, People, Key. Nor does any clicking into the textmodifiers do any change, nor can I do text.
With the same browsers, I can scribl into/onto the whiteboards on your webpage WitLi@gmx.de awai

One thing, I thought I could have unlimited guests but only so many collaborators in teamskrbl. Well, when I post the teamskrbl link to others... it appears they don't have view access only--- they can actually collaborate. While that's not too much trouble, if it limits the number of folks that can see it, then it's problematic.

We want to make the picture always under the lines. In addition, We wish no one without host could move the picture. Response: I will put that in my list of things to do, must apologize in advance though, the list is quite long by now and I am way behind schedule.

Only about 20 would sporadically be updating, the rest viewing. Is skrbl right for me? Thanks. I was given no option to signup using a subscription, but since I can't login, I guess I don't NEED to pay for this, lol.
How is someone supposed to know when your rating system means? Until I can get to my whiteboard, I have to give this a -0 rating.
Olaina DeWalt 24sevencash@charter.net Response: The system acknowledges its mistake and apologizes profusely:( The system allocates bug to rashid - please mail rashidATruvekaDOTcom and he will rectify the problem. (good to have a system to blame things on :).

Response: Absolutely, we need to have the ability for users to upgrade from free to paid accounts - havent done it yet as we havent yet started processing payments, meanwhile it is wonderful to get compliments like yours, thank yee most kindly.

At the URL www.hardmode.com it appears to be some sort of a demonstration website. I was curious as to what association you hold with this website, and if it were possible by any means for you to make this URL free so that I could use it for a website of my own. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
E-Mail: EquanimityJohn@msn.com
Thank y Response: I checked out the hardmode site - skrbl is not associated with them in any way. They have a test button that points to our skrbl now widget - definitely misleading. Hope customers dont get scammed. Thank you for the heads up, I will check for someone to contact. Once again - skrbl HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH H A R D M O D E.
BTW, you can include skrbl on your site. You can get your own graffiti boards from your my skrbl page - just include the code snippet.

I understand then this link stays live, but If I could show this link then delete it then it is gone. - The eraser tool needs a update, because if many people are writing/drawing I can't make free area.
If you upgrade Skrbl, I will like this tool more than I do now. ;-) Response: Thank you much, we will keep trying to improve and appreciate your feedback and patience.

But it's not perfect.
I have improvement proposals:
- A user online interface for guests, which for example shows how many users are online. (or a function which afford guests to give a name themselves)
- more comfortable for drawing on the whiteboard I like to draw, but it's not very easy on thi Response: Thank you for the suggestions, drawing can be a drag with a mouse, just the nature of the beast :). Have you tried a graphic tablet?

One thing that I'd like to have is the ability to save the whiteboard as a png, jpg, gif, etc; rather than as html. Is that possible? Response: Saving as a drawing is definitely possible, I will add this feature to my to-do list, thank you for the suggestion.

Thank y ou for your time, Lourdes Fowler Response: You are right, we should let users know how much storage is used up and how much remains, thanks for the suggestion.

Date: 11/20/2007 2:20:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: I want to report a bug. In collaborative sessions, I've noticed that occasionally a line drawn on a local whiteboard does not get copied to the remote whiteboard. This happened on a recurring basis.
Otherwise, this is the coolest ap! I sent out an email to our entire work site telling them about it. We have the ability to use NetMeeting for this, but it is cumbersome to set up and use, so it doesn't get much use. Your ap is great in that it is so easy and intuitive! Response: Thanks much, for recommending skrbl to your team, we are grateful to people like you who spread the word and bring the World to skrbl. Thank you also for reporting the bug, will do some testing at our end. A tip, you could watch the timestamp at the bottom of your screen, if it does not refresh or is stuck refreshing for a very long time - theres a problem communicating with the server, it would help to refresh (F5) your browser.
Date: 11/14/2007 7:51:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 2 Comment: Moving objects on the whiteboard isn't very intuitive. Example, if you have a circle you should be able to just click it and drag it to where you want it. Having to drag a highlight rectangle around it then move that highlight rectangle (where the object doesn't move with it) is really weird and not very easy. Response: You are right, we should make moving drawing objects more intuitive, another thing we need to fix, sorry.
Date: 11/14/2007 7:50:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 2 Comment: To be useful, it is necessary to be able to draw on top of uploaded pictures in the whiteboard. At the moment if you have a drawing tool selected and try to start drawing over a picture nothing happens (the cursor changes to a pointer). You can start the drawing outside the picture and then drag over the picture, but it really is necessary to be able to start the drawing over the picture. E.g. to highlight an area of the picture for someone by putting a circle over it. Response: We have a bug starting drawing on top of pictures in IE (works in Firefox), need to get it fixed.

Date: 11/10/2007 11:03:00 PM User: BrandonArteaga Rating: 4 Comment: Hello there, I think that you have a great application here but I've been having trouble with the drawing feature. I can't move a line once drawn, which would be extremely helpful to reorganize the space. Also drawn lines don't scale when one zooms out which is also a detrement to board organization. Hopefully these issues can be fixed in the future; keep up the good work Response: You are right, we dont move lines yet (only in the paid version :). I agree it would be very useful, perhaps after we get things settled down with team skrbl? Your other suggestions are also quite helpful, will definitely add them to the list, thanks.

Date: 11/10/2007 12:40:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: Hello, Is there a way to write/draw on pictures or layer pics? Perhaps protractors, rulers, calculators would be useful as well.
Response: Yes you can draw on pictures - paste a picture, switch to drawing mode and start drawing. As far as layering is concerned skrbl keeps the latest edited picture on top, so you would have to add/edit pictures in the order of display.

One main difference between home and school is that I run ZoneAlarm at home. JavaScript and Java 1.6.0 are enabled. Response: skrbl should be firewall friendly since we use standard ports, however I just googled - zone alarm ajax javascript - and there seem to be some issues with privacy settings in zone alarm interfering with Javascript. We do not use java, but we do use javascript and ajax...

Date: 10/30/2007 2:18:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: Comment: I was using the skrbl board with four students. Re: the text boxes that were not there when I returned, I think it is possible that the some students confused the logout x with the text delete x on the bottom of the screen. May be one or the other could be a different symbol? When does saving occur? As each student logs out or when the last one logs out? Is there a save button? Response: skrbl saves as you type (see timestamp at bottom of page), you can save a copy to your desktop (file dropdown) & the skrbl pad owner can save & publish via the publish button. All users can edit or delete each others text & drawings so it is possible that students inardvertently deleted each others text, things should go much smoother the second time around :) I am glad to help make skrbl a success in your class, please keep the feedback & suggestions coming.
Date: 10/30/2007 8:13:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: I found out about your site on Teacher Tube last weekend and then read with interest the activity on Steinbeck. Just a few minutes ago, I tried it with four fourth graders (writing book responses) They were very excited but we experienced problems with the size of the text boxes. Some text seemed to disappear and /or didn't appear on the screen of the other users. Do you have any suggestions? I think this will be a great collaborative tool for my students. Judy Phalen, Media Speci Countr Response: Thank you for trying out skrbl in your class and for your feedback. We have a bug with automatic resizing, especially in edit mode, however users can grab the anchor in the right side and click drag to change the width of text boxes. As for problems with text not appearing, that shouldnt normally happen, we will check & could you please tell me how many students were on the skrbl board together?

Login in, go to the graffit section on your My Skrbls page, click on the Create New Graffiti button. A new graffiti is created for you and you get the URL & the code segment for you to embed the graffiti into your own page or blog.
Date: 10/25/2007 10:04:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: Comment: I am a Maths teacher and I would like to be able to help kids in my class with questions one night a week. Which version of skrbl would I need. I would only be wanting to work one on one (not with more than one at a time). Response: The free version of skrbl should be all you need for now whether you work with one or more students. The team edition has additional features for communication (chat & video conference) and team members share each others resources (files, whiteboards...). skrbl-Team would make sense if you were partnering with other teachers with students joining whiteboard sessions as guests. Of course you can always upgrade later.
Date: 10/24/2007 10:47:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: Love the tool, but unfortunately can't really use it with my team yet until we're able to move objects. Any word on when moving an object will be available? Response: You can move all whiteboard objects (text, files, pictures, drawings)in the team edition. Please use the marquee tool (the dotted box in the menu) to select an area of the whiteboard, click and drag to move the marquee, all objects in the selected area will move to the new location. You can always move individual text, files, pictures (not drawings) when in edit mode, just click and drag (in both versions of skrbl). My fault, I should really update the FAQ.

You could also check out skrbl for teams the bulletin board there is accessible only to team members.
Date: 10/15/2007 1:37:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: In response to the response of my previous comment: 1. Thanks for clarifying that saving does not interrupt whiteboard. In that case, ideally it should not show anything as is the case in most conferencing systems. 2. I tried writing slowly but I have to write too slow to get quality output. My everyday live teaching is around 6 hrs. in conferencing systems using their whiteboards and if the speed of free hand writing (not "drawing") in Skrbl is so slow then it just wont suit.
Ma Response: Manish, as always thank you for taking the trouble to write and share your feedback. User feedback is critical in helping us improve skrbl. I have taken note of your comments and hope you will be happier with the skrbl service as we continue to work on it.
Date: 10/14/2007 1:55:00 AM User: 123iitjee Rating: 3 Comment: Regarding: Free hand using pen tablet. Issue: It is quite irritating to see the message of periodic saving that goes on (Working, Last Saved on .....) continuously at the bottom. The curvatures in free hand are frequently distorted it appears due to the same reason. And since this saving process is frequent, it is really hard to draw them. I had to give up using Skrbl to answer student questions.
Manish Verma. Response: Manish, the saving message does not interrupt the skrbl whiteboard in any way, it lets users know that data is current. So if the timestamp is out of date on an active Whiteboard, you know there is a connection problem and need to refresh. The distortion in lines happens when a user moves the pointing device (mouse/pen/...) too fast, if this happens pls try drawing a bit slower, you could adjust your mouse settings but it is simpler to just draw more deliberately. Hope this helps.
Date: 10/12/2007 11:49:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: Also, it would be nice to be able to create a text box that sizes dynamically with a border around it. Thank you. :) Response: We do resize the text box height dynamically, though you are right the editable box size is a bit buggy in Firefox. As for the borders there seem to be 2 schools of thought, perhaps someday borders OR no borders should be a user option ?

p.s. I was very surprised when I used skrbl at the first time. I hope skrbl is transrated in to Japanese and other languages. Response: We have area (marquee) selection and erase in the team edition, but not yet in this one. A Japanese language skrbl is not a bad idea, have you tried skrbling in Japanese, it works great.

You cant paste pictures from your desktop but you can copy and paste pictures to your skrbl board from the web.

This is a temporary glitch as we implement a bug fix. You should have your data back in IE too in a little bit. Once again, sincere apologies.

Also, when I created the team I do not believe I was asked for billing information. On the rating scale, what is good and what is bad?
Ed Grood egrood@gmail.com Response: We are looking into your problem and I will mail you ASAP. Regarding billing we elected to continue in evaluation mode for a few days. The only thing i would like to ask is that you keep it $10 a month, then you'll have me for as long as you want! Kudos for this awesome product. Response: Thank you much for the compliment. Dont worry about the price, it wont change, the idea is to keep it $10 for those who sign up at $10 (for the forseeable future). So if we increase prices in the future you wont be impacted.

Thanks! Paul Eldenburg Response: If you are using the script from our homepage www.skrbl.com - you are doing it right and it should work. If you mail me your URL I can check.

The face is painted over in the remote computer but not in the local computer. That turned out to be a surprise for me on this end and the person on the other end. Response: hmmm, that it got painted over in the remote computer means the messaging went through correctly, maybe a local js error? What OS and browser was this?

Date: 8/29/2007 11:54:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 5 Comment: I used to have a session with a word as a session ID (www.skrbl.com/yourmom), but I deleted it a while back. I'm not looking to recover the session, what I'm looking for is how to have another session where the session ID is a word and not random numbers. I can't for the life of me remember how it was done the first time... Any time I create a new session, it's a session with random numbers and I can't find a way to change the id. I'm referring to the actual session ID, not the session title. Response: When you signup we skrbl creates a session with your User Name as the sessionID, all subsequent IDs are sytem generated numbers.

There is no eraser which can conveniently erase any unwanted objects. Response: To delete drawings use the delete tool (first left in the drawing menu), then click on any drawing to delte. And yes, drawings cannot be moved yet.

Date: 8/23/2007 11:34:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: Thanks for the update. When I imbed skrbl in a framepage, it won't automatically update in some remote computers using IE7 but will in all using Firefox 2. Also the scroll bars are lost when it is a called URL in a frame. No big deal in the end.... I just call skrbl.com as a new page and, voila (which of course is French for eureka!), it works fine.
Network latency and timeouts must have been local. Everything is great today. Response: Will see if we can figure it out, glad to know you have no skrbl performance issues.
Date: 8/23/2007 12:03:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: Great app. Imbeds great in HTML framepages with Firefox; poorly (at least with unpredictable behavior) with IE. No surprises with IE.
Has the skrbl server been up and down or slow for the last couple days??
The line weight and color selection don't seem to disappear when they lose mouse focus.
Is there a way to force the pencil to have focus when a whiteboard loads?
Otherwise, I'm liking it and just trying to make it a completely reiiable interactive board on Response: Thanks, Can you tell us where you are embedding the whiteboard? In another app? The skrbl server hasnt been down, but I will check on performance. Yes the color/line weight drop downs persist sometimes and go away only after another mouse over. We can default to the pencil (like in graffit) if enough users want this, what say users?

I have it hosted in an IFRAME and would like a way to grab save the pad values on my database and then be able to reload it later. So I can have users working on a fresh pad each time, but I can reload the pad for them. Response: We dont reload saved skrbl sessions ... yet. The groupware version does allow versioning, that may be what you need, please check it out when we launch the beta later this month.

Finally, it'd be quite nice to be able to save a sketch you collaborated on to your account under "My skrbls". Good job on the software, though, it's quite nice. imaginationcubed by GE wasn't working for me so I used this and I'm quite pleased. Response: Thank you for the heads up, we will take a look at the menus & dropdowns. We save whiteboard snapshots in skrbl groupware (launch this week - plug) will look at getting this into skrbl too.

Lisa Response: Lisa, our cursor on Mac needs to be improved, but if you are in drawing mode (pencil selected on top bar and in drawing bar), click and drag anywhere on the whiteboard to draw. Please recheck, I just tested on Mac (Tiger, Firefox 2) and it works fine, let me know if you still have a problem.

What can I do to fix this problem so that I can have private sessions with my students so that I have control of the content. Response: If you have marked your sessions private, only you (the owner) can get to them. To allow password protected access please make the session public again (uncheck the checkbox in column 1) and set a password. Now anyone with a password should be able to access the session. Date: 7/31/2007 9:22:00 PM User: rossbow Rating: 5 Comment: I use skrbl a lot for ideas mapping and have found it's simple interface to be very efficient. But it would be great to have an erase tool which is more like the eraser that is used on conventional whiteboards. This would allow a group of "scribbles" to be deleted without requiring the user to delete the entire whiteboard contents.
It would also be great to have the ability to export the whiteboard contents in powerpoint format.
Thanks for your efforts,
Ross Bowden Response: We do have a eraser to delete individual drawings on click. We are building marquee selection into our premium edition so that the delete works with a selected group.

I really love skrbl, but for some reason, I'm unable to upload pictures or files. I can browse for a picture/file, and select it, but then when I hit "upload," there is no response.
I am an ESL teacher in NYC and would love to use skrbl in an upcoming class, so I hope to find a solution to this quickly!
Thank you, Tara Response: Thank you for using skrbl, & my apologies for the problem, we are making a slight change in the flow that should fix the flow (by Friday). Meanwhile you could try to refresh (F5) and try uploading again. That should help. Do keep the feedback coming.

I have one on my blog, and want to embed it on MySpace as well, but MySpace doesn't support iframes. I was wondering if there's an alternative, or if there some way the graffiti boards could be made compatible with MySpace. Response: Emily, we will try to find a solution for MySpace. To start with perhaps we can provide a graffiti button. I know of other users who save their skrbl whiteboards and upload the HTML to their MySpace page, but it will be so cool to have a skrbl graffiti board right in your MySpace page. BTW have you tried the new widget, it gives your users new whiteboards of their own to use and yes it works on My Space

I guess I'm asking, what is the purpose in uploading documents? What type of documents can be used with SKRBL? Response: In meetings typically people tend to pass around documents, in an online meeting you could upload and share the document on the skrbl board rather than resorting to email, this way those who need to can download the document and no one has to worry about long CC lists or overflowing mailboxes :) Thats the purpose behind file upload in skrbl. We have document viewing in the premium (paid) version of skrbl that we hope to launch soon.

One question: how does the "fill" function work (the button with the little paint bucket). I've tried filling text boxes, shapes and nothing seems to happen!?
Response: Sorry should have spelt it out, here goes, 1-click on the arrow tool, 2-select the shape you want to fill, 3-select the fill color from the bucket ... done. Still feels like a mouthfull though, am trying to simplify it please bear with us.
Date: 6/27/2007 11:38:00 AM User: rfant Rating: 4 Comment: Wonderful tool, concept.
However, there are a couple of small issues (mentioned above) that need to get worked out if you want to see folks like teachers seriously use it.
I will certainly be one of those! Response: Robert, thanks for all your feedback, we are working on the issues you mention, (the exploding images is fixed BTW).
Date: 6/27/2007 11:36:00 AM User: rfant Rating: Comment: Was just able to upload (not copy/paste) an image into a skrbl session (no success in GB).
When I tried to move the image, there was a tremendous lag time. The "Move" control is not intuitive, as in you (I) don't just grab the image anywhere and drag it. You must select, then click on one of the gray (markers?) around the edge. At first, it would not allow me to move up or down, only left, right. Eventually it allowed vertical move.
Response: Hmmm, I will look into making it more intuitive (click anywhere and drag) am travelling right now but will get it done soon.
Date: 6/27/2007 11:05:00 AM User: rfant Rating: 5 Comment: OK, just tried to "paste" an image in my graffiti board. I tried to paste the image itself, it's url location, nothing seemed to work. What am I doing wrong?
Is there any way you could demonstrate this?
Anticipating your response, Robert Response: In IE, right click on the web image & copy. In skrbl you have to be in Text mode, click on the whiteboard for a fresh tag (or click in an existing tag) right click for the skrbl context menu and paste. I know a bit involved right now but we are trying to simplify it.

Is there any way to group items such as this?
Q: What are the differences in a "session" and a "Graffiti Board?" I tried to past an image into the Graffiti Board and was unable.
Love the product though, Robert Response: Robert, your exploding 3d problem should be fixed now, thank you for pointing it out, we have debugged the issue in laying out straight lines.

Rightnow I've got one posted for teachers to use. I'm trying to introduce them to the idea.
http://robertfant.com/PMWiki/pmwiki.php?n=KSMath/Graffiti
Thanks for your work and generosity, Response: No you cant upload a picture to the graffiti board upload is only for the whiteboard, you could however copy paste an online picture (for instance from flickr).

Right now, the guest count on my skrbl is at about Guest329. Will it continue to go up, or is there a point where it drops back down to 1? Also, is that the guest count for the entire skrbl site, or just my skrbl pad? Response: The guestlist is for that particular whiteboard only. Since we dont (cant) track unregistered users we increment the counter everytime a person joins or rejoins the whiteboard. The counters do not reset automatically, though sometimes we may reset them during a maintenance fix.

"we have additional features in the works and hope to release the next enhancement in January 2007. Watch this space" Response: Err, yes, our FAQ is out of date, we have to sync it up with the application. However we are constantly adding to skrbl to build new features and respond to user feedback.

If you dont mind how to built the interactive online Whiteboard? Response: skrbl is not opensource, however feel free to embed graffiti into your website/application, it is easy and that is what it is meant for. We can also work with you if you want to integrate the whiteboard into your applications, however the source code is not shared.
Date: 6/10/2007 2:26:00 AM User: spanishtutor Rating: 4 Comment: Another suggestion, I have notice skrbl doesn't support European symbols (áéíúóú ñ ö ü € ). It is of no use if you try to write notes in other languajes.
It would be great for people who speak other languages if you can add that support.
Thanks again.
Response: There is a known bug with diphthongs that we need to fix. My apologies for the inconvenience, however skrbl does support most languages.

If you continue to refine and improve, I will be a lifelong client.. and in the future i WOULD be willing to pay something. Not now, but when you get it nice and tight.
One issue for me is that it never stops loading and I end up waiting for a long time and the "loading" never stops. I am on a Mac power book G4 with 2GB RAM. Response: Thanks for saying it, we are trying to improve skrbl daily, your suggestions help us get there & we will continue to work at it.

2.I would appreciate different type eraser (traditional square that whitens when dragged along the screen). Having "color filling" feature would be neat, too.
3. The ability to create tables would come very handy as an additional feature.
to sum up this is a great tool. Introduces features that I miss in google docs (writely) but I miss other like tables or Response: We cant have problems with sync, will most definitely test and debug. The other items we have on our to do list and will try to get them done ASAP

Response: hmm, ok, will look into the login, it would help to know what browser & OS you use. Couple of points, I created and account and uploaded a file, it was a real small file but it took ages to upload, might not be your issue but worth checking. And it would be nice to see a 'clear board' type button, might be I've just missed it totally but I couldn't spot one.
Regards, Alan anbundock@yahoo.co.uk Response: We will definitely check the upload speed, thank you for the heads up. The clear whiteboard button is on teh MY SKRBLS page (the eraser icon).

I'm running iceweasel 2.0.0.3 in debian. Response: oops we havent tested on Iceweasel, but we will check the menu code and retest in Firefox 2.

There was quite a bit on there that I was never able to look at before it was all deleted, so I'm really hoping that you can help me out with this. Thanks. Date: 6/2/2007 8:19:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 5 Comment: I used Firefox browser and skrbl takes a bit of time to load some days (depending on how much is on the board). It freezes the entire browser until it is loaded. Also a suggestion, adding more colors to work with. Perhaps a color wheel of some type or adding in slider bars to pick colors from? And a suggestion from a friend, having a way to fill in larger areas at a time. Perhaps having a brush size option? Thank you for your time! Response: Yes, skrbl slows down in Firefox if the whiteboard is heavy on graphics, working on it. Your suggestions are always very welcome, we need to get working on the list of pending drawing toolbox enhancements soon, trying to buy some time, wish us luck... friend.

I'm now going to start collaborating with several people instead of just one, and appreciate the password option.
if I had one request, it would be that the default font size was the next smaller one. If there were a way to do that, it would save a lot of time, as opposed to making each one smaller as I create.
thank you and keep up the good work - Response: Thnx, will try to get a premium service out to you ASAP (we have no objections to making money ;). The default font size seems to work for most people, perhaps we should have customizable default settings in the premium version ?

As a Usability Designer, I love talking design :):)
We've shied away from skrbl in several meetings because (a)we really needed tables and (b)lines cannot be drawn over images or text (appear below), meaning we can't circle/highlight.
We ended up on a google spreadsheets to collab, because tabular data is our main focus of discussion.
Imo, tables and drawing over text/images are two things we really need to make this a complete whiteboard tool fo Response: Hello Michael, love to hear design feedback. About drawing on pictures - it works in IE and we have been meaning to get it done in Firefox, our bad. Getting on it now, seriously.

This is a much easier whiteboard to use than imagination cubed...Great job! Response: Yes we are malware free, and we do not sell or share your emails with others, we hate spam as much as you do.

Date: 5/21/2007 2:19:00 PM User: roasted Rating: 4 Comment: Hi, I really like skrbl, as its a great way to summarise ideas. Skrbl would be even better if it had a 'select all' feature from which to move items en mass. A select all and a select multiple (not all) feature would be helpful! Keep at it guys. Thank you Ian. Response: To remove items en-mass we do have the - Erase Whiteboard - button on your My Skrbls page. In your list of skrbl sessions go to the whiteboard you want to wipe clean, and click the eraser. We do not have a multi select ... yet.

I used a skrbl for a an online discussion with a tutor - I wanted to print it out - when printed all the texts boxes were on top of each other.

I am trying the whiteboard on both a pc and a mac. On the pc, very smooth and fast. On the mac, slow and jerky. I seem to have to leave the pen for 2 seconds to "catch" and then it follows until the pen is lifted. Also just scrolling up and down is slow.
I am using firefox 2.003 and OSX 10.4.9.
Hope this helps; I can see potential here. Response: We previously had problems getting skrbl to work right on Mac, now those bugs are fixed, we should start looking into improving performance.
Date: 5/14/2007 2:07:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: U need a better way of erasing the board, maybe just a simple rubber that works like the pen but erases obviously. Then also a button that simply wipes the entire screen! Otherwise its amazing, job well dun! Response: Skrbl whiteboard and graffiti owners can wipe/erase their board clean from the my skrbls page. For obvious reason this feature is reserved for (registered) session owners only.

Date: 5/3/2007 6:40:00 PM User: michael richardson Rating: 4 Comment: Tried skrbl again today to collab during a meeting. Worked very well for our needs. Yay for eraser tool! And yay for shapes!
Minor annoyances:
1. unable to delete some lines drawn by another user using right click or the eraser tool (Firefox 2.0, Windows XP Pro). Worked after leaving/returning to the skrbl file.
2. annoyed that arrow and eraser open textbox if I miss line. Would rather text boxes only opened with text tool.
3. How about some hot keys to swit Response: Thanks for the feedback Michael; Re annoyance # 1 (unable to delete line) - I probably need to look at eraser/cursor senstivity; # 2 - (no textboxes in drawing mode) - you have a valid point, will definitely take a second look at it.

I love how multiple languages are supported! I can't see how to change the names of my skrbls.
Scrolling doesn't always work well - images overlap each other or don't stay in place.
Otherwise, it's a pretty good application - I enjoy using it, but the sharing component needs to work better. Response: Apologies for the late response... Our mail service was down part of yesterday for some updates, I hope you find it is working fine now. To change the title of a skrbl board just click in the title area and edit the title (you have to be the owner of that skrbl whiteboard and logged in). Scrolling, hmm... lets see if we can improve this. Images overlap if thats how the user lays them out, this is intentional, but if they are not staying in place, we need to fix that and we will.

I mean: when you draw, you might touch the margins by mistake. If then you release the button while in the margin or out of screen, this event is missed, which change the mouse behavior.

Response: Got it, tracking this bug now, will figure it out and fix.
Date: 4/9/2007 4:54:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: Comment: When refreshing the page (a complex one), after the "loading" finished, the page is blanck... until I do an event. (or is it just an extra (long) delay, not mentionned by the cursor ?)
Response: If the page is complex (lots of data) the delay is probably due to network delay, especially if this is at a busy time for the server.

Date: 4/8/2007 5:10:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 5 Comment: Hello,
I just started to write a Java Applet based shared whiteboard, when I found your javascript based one. It works really well, has all the usefull features, and I would like to congratulate you for this work. It will be really usefull for us again, when I will work with a collegue over a videoconference.
Best regards
Christoph Response: Thanks, we have tried to keep skrbl focused on practical, useful features. BTW we have video mashups in the works, www.tweebo.com is in development right now but soon...

Funny bug: when tracing out of screen, then releasing the button, the event is lost, so from now the mouse draw line even without pressing the button. Response: hmm, tracing out of the screen eh? Thanks for letting us know.

Date: 4/7/2007 12:22:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: it is really cool. I was dreaming on something like that.
So it is promising... but yet extremely limited for the moment concerning the drawing part (no thickness, blurr, erasor, fill, lines, square/circle, limited colors): for interactive drawing (in other contexts), see http://www.isketch.net/ and http://www.zewall.com/
ok, these are in flash, while you are all in javascript.
also your tool is quite slow compare to them, but they only allow small boards...
-> hope to see soon next versi Response: Thanks, we are late with enhancements to the drawing tools, but hope to get this done soon.
Date: 4/7/2007 12:00:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: zoom only changes the text, not the drawings !
so there is no garanty that a drawing linking 2 text box appear at the same place for 2 users.
Response: That is true for now, but this will change in future releases.

(especially since i don't know how) sorry i am just not getting this part... if i could make this work, the rating is a 5! Response: To download a shared file from a skrbl whiteboard, right click on the file icon and select download from the context menu - this should bring up the download prompt (Open/Save/Cancel). Clicking on save brings up the file explorer Save As dialog in Windows where you can specify the location - BTW what OS do you use?
Date: 3/27/2007 7:51:00 AM User: weeliangng Rating: 3 Comment: how do you resize the text box?
Response: To resize a text box horizontally, you can click drag the right border. Vertical size is autmatically controlled by the volume of text input.
Date: 3/25/2007 8:51:00 AM User: aynothea Rating: Comment: How come the drawing tool does not come with an erasor? That should not have been so hard to add. When you are drawing in a "paint" like environment you should be able to undo messes. Or why couldn't you make it More like Paint? Make a much better program if you did that, believe me.
jhona Response: Please keep in mind that skrbl is a multi user whiteboard, where several users can be drawing simultaneously. Putting in an eraser is not diffucult, it is the paradigm of an eraser in the multiuser scenario (that still remains intuitive & easy to usee) that is the challenge.

Date: 3/21/2007 3:42:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: Comment: Just wanted to add that the whiteboard caused Firefox 2.0.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.4.9. I reopened the session to the same page (with the whiteboard loaded) and it crashed again.

Date: 3/20/2007 11:18:00 AM User: justinjmoss Rating: 3 Comment: Pictures that I upload to my skrbl whiteboards are not staying in the whiteboards when I switch to a second session and return to the previous one later. What gives? Response: hmmm, this is a new one for us, can you give us some details - What browser & OS did this happen on?
Date: 3/20/2007 10:36:00 AM User: justinjmoss Rating: 4 Comment: I think that skrbl is definitely an idea whose time has come, and on the whole I am very impressed with the work that has been done. I do, however, have a complaint: why is it that I must rename all my files (using either no spaces or underscores) in order to upload them to skrbl? Why is skrbl unable to recognize spaces in filenames? It would really be much less of an annoyance if I didn't have to rename my files. Response: Spaces or underscores in filenames work fine (what OS do you use?), we have no problem with these. Apostrophes on the other hand are a problem, and if you have an apostrophe in a filename or filepath, we request you to rename it for uploading to skrbl.
Date: 3/20/2007 8:23:00 AM User: capglr Rating: 3 Comment: If a document template could be uploaded in Word or Excel format such that persons could then enter data in the template on the screen that would keep columns aligned, that would be a wonderful option. Date: 3/20/2007 12:43:00 AM User: sztrimz Rating: 3 Comment: Great site! I like it, but a couple of key improvements would make it even better:
1. The ability to draw OVER uploaded images rather than just around them. This would be helpful when collaborating over an existing image.
2. An eraser tool
3. The File menu is finicky and is reluctant to stay open onMouseOver while other menus such as the colour palette refuse to close at times.
Response: Thank you. Drawing on pictures currently works only in IE, in Firefox the drawing renders behind/under the picture while syncing, but we are working on fixing it, hopefully soon & we will work on making the mouse over behave better.
Date: 3/19/2007 12:35:00 PM User: Uncle Brian Rating: 5 Comment: I just tried skrbl out in IE7 ( I use Firefox 2 by default). The cross-hair "ink" issue isn't a problem in ie. It is in Firefox 2

Date: 3/19/2007 9:19:00 AM User: capglr Rating: 2 Comment: Fine service, thank you for making it available.
Some observations re: http://skrbl.com/38169140
Each time you exit a particular text box, the box shifts thereby making it difficult to a particular text box aligned with other text boxes.
I upload a jpg and it was very difficult to get rid of it.
Once I activated the password feature, the system will not allow me to turn it off. Response: Hmmm, I will look into the textbox moving issue. To disable the password on a session, just set the password (for that session) to blank.
Date: 3/18/2007 1:58:00 PM User: lowflow Rating: Comment: I've tried the 'copy' and 'paste' function for pictures.. it appears not to work.. nothing happens.. i am using firefox 2.0
I clicked on another web image from another tab, i copied the image to the clipboard then i tried to paste it into the skrbl window.. nothing happened.. Response: Yeah, sorry, copy paste is a problem in Firefox, we are looking for a workaround.
Date: 3/18/2007 1:07:00 PM User: lowflow Rating: 3 Comment: I really like your site, simple and to the point..
the most useful option would a copy and paste for screenshots (I am using XP). I know that i can create the screenshot and create a jpg/gif and then upload, but it would be so much easier if i could paste from the clipboard.
Response: True copy/paste of screenshots would be useful but difficult to do now without a plug in/download of some kind, guess we need to rack our brains ...
Date: 3/17/2007 10:41:00 PM User: Uncle Brian Rating: Comment: I just discovered that it deletes only text clips. However, that bring up a request to include the erase entire session icon on the whiteboard page. Consider using the same metaphor for all erase functions relative to icons. For instance, the pen eraser could be a pencil with the red x, the text eraser could be the letter A with the red x, etc. (I ran a design and UI team in a former life). Thanks again, Brian Response: Thank you Uncle Brian for all your input, just what we need, users telling us what they want on skrbl to do the things they want to do. We have a lot of things to do, wish us luck.
Date: 3/17/2007 10:35:00 PM User: Uncle Brian Rating: 5 Comment: One more thing. I expect that the Icon at the bottom of the whiteboard screen (rectangular shape with a X in the lower-right corner) is equivalent to the complete screen erase on the My Sessions page. It isn't working on my XP Media Edition system. Response: Err, guess we need to do a better job of communicating skrbl features, sorry.
Date: 3/17/2007 10:29:00 PM User: Uncle Brian Rating: 5 Comment: Letting you know why the cursor "ink" alignment is an issue... I'm using your whiteboard to tutor a student (my nephew) in geometry and algebra. It's very hard to draw with the misalignment. As an example, I can draw nearly perfectly in paint, where the cursor is a Pen Icon with the "ink" coming out of the pen tip - which is just about the mis-alignment caused by using the cross-hairs. Changing to a Pen Icon with the offset built-in may be an easy fix to consider. Thanks, Brian Response: Point taken, hope we get it fixed quick, wish your nephew good luck from us.
Date: 3/17/2007 10:21:00 PM User: Uncle Brian Rating: 5 Comment: Hi. I think this is a GREAT tool. However, I'm having a problem that prevents my using it to its full potential. The "ink" from the cursor comes out at the imaginary intersection of the of lines that would close the lower-right quadrant of the cross-hair cursor rather than at the center of the cross-hairs. I checked my system and found the pointing device to be working correctly. Can you make the "ink" come out at the center? Response: Yes we have an alignment problem in Firefox and are working on fixing it.

C:\Documents and Settings\Robert Stetler\My Documents\Bob's Jobs\Trinity Bible College\David\Quizzes\Quiz 9 Again.doc
Do you have any advice? Again I like skrbl very much Response: The problem is due to the apostrophe in the file path, please try moving the file to another folder with no apostrophe in the directory path or file name, that should work, sorry about the bother.
Date: 3/17/2007 3:31:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: Great tool, is it going to remain free? I use it at work and want to know before I recommend it to others in the office. P.S. You ask us to rate skrbl below. Is 5 good or bad? I'm giving is a good 5. Response: Thank you for your compliments. Yes embeding skrbl is definitely possible. Some users have already added skrbl to their blogs/pages & we hope to launch Grafitti soon (which will make this process even easier), & yes on our scale, 5 is the highest rating, thanks.
Date: 3/15/2007 10:00:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 2 Comment: Hi! This is a great start to something desperately needed - a reasonable online white board. It would be great if you added "copy/paste" functionality straight from the Windows clipboard, without having to save/upload a file (the web image paste feature is great, but as a software product designer I really need a fast way to copy and paste from any Windows app to check out dialog boxes and such). Which brings another feature up - a simple rectangle "capture to my skrbl whiteboard" feature. THX Response: You are right these would be great features to have but would probably require a download of some kind (browser plug in?). We have lots of things to get done first, perhaps later...??
Date: 3/15/2007 9:26:00 AM User: toomatoo Rating: 5 Comment: - please have a better erase option, one where you can draw a marqee to select things and delete them all at once

Response: Your wish is my command -:) we are working on better erase/delete options and hope give these to you soon. We built Login & Registration the way we did as part of our Human recognigtion strategy (as opposed to having users type in squiggly lines) we will gradually get to autofill.

What am I doing wrong?? Instructions...???
so far I rate skrbl less than 1' Response: Start a skrbl session, on the session you can click anywhere in the white space (whiteboard) and start typing. For freehand drawing, click on the pencil icon in the top bar, now you click drag (move your mouse while holding down the left button) to draw. You can toggle between typing and drawing modes using the pencil and A buttons on the top bar. Hope this helps, also please note that we currently support Internet Explorer & Firefox only.

Date: 3/11/2007 8:52:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: This is very nice. It would be useful to have a delete session and an eraser rather than having to erase the whole page.
Also, will this be Mac friendly at any point?
Also, if a saved page could be reloaded as an active page, at least the contents, that would be cool. Response: Thank you for the compliment. We are working on fixing the Mac issues, it is our top priority. Delete session comes next in our priority list (check skrbls to do list on our blog). User demand for an eraser means we have to get to that as soon as we clear our to do list. Reloading a locally saved page, now thats a big one, very useful for sure & we hope to get there too, but before that we are working on saving Whiteboard versions on the server, that should help, dont you think?
Date: 3/11/2007 8:12:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 5 Comment: I'm satisfied with the interface. One improvement. Suppose that the white board is almost filled with drawing (this occasionally happens in a long discussion). When my collaborator draws something over the existing drawing, it's quite difficult to know where he is drawing now. It'd be easier if his mouse cursor appears on my side with a big enough size to identify. P.S. The sample of the Japanese text on your page is grammatically wrong.
It should end with "desu", not "aru Response: Wonderful that you like teh Interface. Also we have cursor visibility in the works for a presentation board. As for the Japanese grammar guess you got us there :(, we relied on online translation on Altavista, will try to replace the text, maybe an excerpt from our review on 100shiki ???
Date: 3/11/2007 6:21:00 AM User: geop Rating: 4 Comment: It would be very usefull if the owner of the page can give users (who knows the password) several rights: to upload files, pictures, to delete files, pictures they have uploaded (not the other ones).
Skrbl is great, thanks.
George. Response: Thank you for your suggestions, we try to keep the application simple and limit variant options but we also take user suggestions seriously and will definitely explore these.
Date: 3/10/2007 10:27:00 AM User: jowabel Rating: 2 Comment: I don't understand the value of looking at a file if it will not display on the screen?
The speed and look is great but the two icons to the left of the pencil don't make sense. What does the arrow do? and what is the yellow thing with red x below it?
Response: The file sharing is for the convenience of sharing files via the whiteboard, rather than having to use another tool like email. The weird yellow thing with a red x is our bad attempt to show an arrow with an x for Delete. This sets the delete mode for drawings. The other arrow is how we had delete (via a context menu) until the new button was introduced this week, it is not much use now but we have left it there for coming enhancements.
Date: 3/9/2007 1:46:00 PM User: cjburd Rating: Comment: I can't figure out how to search on skrbl. Can you help? If your whiteboard is larger than the viewing area, you will have to scroll to get to the matches.

4. When to "My skrbl". Clicked "skrbl pad" for that session.
5. Text and arrow still there. Picture had disappeared. Expecting picture there too.
6. Went to "My Files" and I see my pictures still listed.
7. In another similar scenario, Firefox2 viewers saw the arrow below picture when I draw on top of pict Response: Thank you for your feedback, we will get to work on the bug rightaway.

frothap@gmail.com Response: Thank you for the compliment. We do not have a delete session feature yet, but plan to deploy it next week. File sizes currently are limited to a maximum of 2 MB per file and a total of 10 mb online storage, not much but still enough to be useful we hope.

Also it would be a lot easier to erase hand drawn lines if you had an eraser. And one more thing, when you select something it would be great if you could hit delete on the keyboard when you wanted it deleted. Keep up the good work. Response: chat between whiteboarders is a feature we have on our wish list, but not so sure about a conventional eraser, it just seems too troublesome in a multi user setting.

Date: 3/8/2007 2:32:00 AM User: SS Rating: 3 Comment: Hi,
skrbl seems pretty cool, but it seems to be lacking in some important features -- for instance selection and move of multiple objects. (or even 1 drawn object). Also, it seems a little sluggish -- have you considered making/using a flash version instead? Finally, I think something like "skrbllets" would be neat, where the skrbl board could be integrated as part of online development/feedback/design environments, or as part of existing websites..
thx,
B
beracah@mit.edu Response: We are working on adding features, including the ability to move drawing objects like you can move text tags. Also regarding skrblets, some are in the works, one we call graffitti, and hope to release it by April.

The only problem I have found is that the drawing crosshair is a little bit off from where it actually draws the line. Also, the site could use a favicon :P Response: Guess we think alike, since we too think skrbl is the best (not that we are biased or anything ;) We will be improving drawing and hope you will see steady improvement.

I'm using firefox on linux, but I also can't access them using firefox for windows XP. Response: You should be able to access your My Skrbls page now. We found a bug caused by an apostrophe in the session title. Temporarily we have removed the apostrophes until the bug is fixed, in a day or so, meanwhile please avoid apostrophes, in titles. Cannot see my sessions anymore.
What can I do? Response: Whoops! apparently an apostrophe in a session title was causing the problem, sorry. Your sessions are accessible now. Good catch though, we havent fixed the bug yet, meanwhile please avoid apostrophes, in titles, thanks.

But it doesn't seem to share instantly as it being written on unlike others whitebaords such as www.groupboard.com's Response: It is great that you like skrbl, this is just the beginning we hope to keep improving.
Date: 3/6/2007 8:40:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 1 Comment: this is a great idea, but it crashes firefox and in IE7 I get 'invalid session id'. Love how you can just cut and paste photos. Response: Thanks, we will keep trying to improve, one day at a time.
Date: 3/5/2007 10:29:00 AM User: Prostr8 Rating: Comment: I have two sessions that I didn't intentionally save. I wanted to clean up my account by deleting them, but I can't figure out how. I can just reuse these two, so it's not horrible, but I can see my account getting pretty messy in time if I don't have the ability to erase old sessions.
Would rate you below, but I don't know the direction the scale goes. Is 1 great or horrible? Response: We dont have a delete session feature yet, but that has become a high priority for us. You can however erase your sessions from your My skrbls page, simply click on the Eraser Icon (the button that looks like a blue rubber eraser). On another note, 1 is horrible 5 is GREAT.

Date: 3/4/2007 1:49:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: unless I'm mistaken, there's no way to erase. We need a way to erase our mistakes!! Response: You can erase the entire whiteboard from your My skrbls page. Erasing drawings is bit cumbersome right now - use the selector tool (arrow), move arrow tip to drawing and right click (the drawing changes color to indicate it is selected and a context menu should appear), delete from the context menu. We are working on putting in a much more straightforward delete button and should have it out tomorrow.
Date: 3/4/2007 5:17:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: Very nice. But I could not move my drawing or text Response: There is no way to move drawings... yet. But you can click and drag to move text tags.
Date: 3/3/2007 3:15:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 5 Comment: Very nice. I think the metaphor and interface are beautiful. The view is clean -- no "eye candy" controls inside the user's space -- the WYSISWYG formatting is great.
Suggestions: clarifying the three different "X" buttons would be a good thing; In addition to print an export to rtf file function is needed.
--- but _please_ keep the interface restricted to the top and bottom border and to the formatting ribbon and leave me the big beautiful whiteboard.
thanks and good luck Response: :) Thank you, & yes a rework of the FAQ is in order, with clarifications and updates to match the changes.

Date: 3/2/2007 12:37:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 2 Comment: When used with Firefox 2.0.0.2 skrbl is so slow that it is unusable. Therefore, it cannot merit any rating at all since it is not usable.
It is a lot more usable with IE 7, but still has problems when used with a Wacom graphics pad. Thus my overall rating of 2. Response: Speed should not be affected by Firefox, we have been experiencing high volumes, perhaps that was the reason for the slow performance? We are adding hardware and bandwidth to support our growing user community, please bear with us.
Date: 3/2/2007 12:21:00 PM User: sirmeili Rating: 5 Comment: Hi there,
I think skrbl is an awesome idea! I am part of a startup company where we are all spread out over the state of florida and this will greatly help our phone meetings. The problem I am seeing is that though my session is password protected, there are 4 people when it should only be me and one other. is this just an error or are they really in the session with me and my associate?
Thanks in advance
Frank M Thompson
sirmeili@meilibox.com Response: Apparently this is a bug, the user list sometimes does not update correctly, showing users from previous sessions too, though the are not actually present at the time. Also do remember that we do not at present boot users when you change password status (unprotected to protected or change password) so users already on the session will continue to be in the session, however new users or those who leave and try to get back do not have access.

I would also like to know if/ how you rename Skrbl pages. Response: Sorry you feel that way, I hope you will change your mind when we fix the drawing (erasing) issues. The title is editable by the host/owner of the session, to change, click on the title and type.
Date: 3/2/2007 10:04:00 AM User: 123iitjee Rating: 3 Comment: The idea looks useful for eLearning. Read only option is very much required for this type of usage. Delete feature needs to be better and in future there should be straight line, ellipse, rectangle etc. options as well. Text chat is also suggested. VOIP can be planned for future but meanwhile an HTML area can be provided where the moderator can put the Skype code. Perhaps, people behind Skrbl should have a look at Vyew.
Manish Verma (123iitjee.com) Response: Glad you find it useful, and thank you for your suggestions, as you can see we are working on some of those. The people behind skrbl thank you and promise you this, the view here is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

GREAT START!
1. No right click context menu.
2. My test appeared to upload but would not paste.
3. The cursor is not calibrated to drawing tools.
4. It would help me (and the kids I work with) to have all of skrbl's tool menus/options on floating pallets (ala GraphicConvertor).
5. Cross platform compatibility including Linux is a biggie as many of my educational customers live in all worlds.
macshasta Response: As you know we are working on some of these issues, esp drawing, and on improving cross browser and cross platform performance. Hopefully you should start seeing incremental improvements soon. We do need to do increased testing on Mac.

Anyway, you have done a very good work, thanks.
Yours, Oscar Response: Thank you Oscar, other users too are reporting trouble with the context menu delete/erase. We are working on providing a delete button to avoid the context menu, will try to get it out ASAP.

However, another machine with a slightly different Firefox version (FF 1.5.0.8/FC6/Compiz) works fine. Doing more testing... I have it password protected but I still see others in there that I did not invite Response: Booting guests is suddenly a hot topic :), let us work on it. It would be similar to what happens when you erase a session - All guests get an alert and their whitebords get Erased too.
Date: 3/1/2007 6:09:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: I love the concept. The only problem I have is when I password protect my session and other users are still listed in the room. How can I make sure only certain users have access to my sessions? Can I as a host "boot" people out of password protected sessions? It will be a 5 when these issues are addressed. Response: Guests already in the session are not booted, but those who have left cant return. The boot sounds like an idea. Let us work on it.

Richard Walker Response: I am sorry, that shouldnt have happened. We try to make using skrbl as easy as possible (no registration required) and hate to think we made it difficult for you to register. I dont know what the problem was but hope you will give it another try, meanwhile we are rechecking the registration process and will fix any issues we find.
Date: 3/1/2007 2:13:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: I haven't even tried this yet -- but there should be widget 'skrbl' that I could put into any blog post, or on my myspace page. Right now (by popular demand) the drawing stuff is our #1 priority but we hope to get grafitti out in March too.
Date: 3/1/2007 1:36:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: This is a great tool! I notice that you're working on a better eraser, but I can't get to the "Context menu" that the FAQ mentions as the way to erase now. I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.9 under Fedora Core 6 and right-click doesn't seem to do anything (nor any other action I can think of that should expose a context menu). Response: Until we fix the eraser (soon, really) - you have to right click on the line with the arrow tool to get the context menu (dont ask, it made sense at the time).
Date: 3/1/2007 11:39:00 AM User: Michael Richardson Rating: 4 Comment: FAQ states that next release will be Jan 07.
Also, right clicking to delete took a long time to figure out (what does the delete at the bottom do? It doesn't do anything if I select a line).
Consider changing right click to immediately delete, maybe with a confirmation, like textboxes... it's quite cumbersome to right click, then select the 'delete' link (which is small). A confirm box could be done with right-click+space bar Response: Guess we need to update the FAQ, that line is from December 06 and refers to the multiple releases we had in January. The delete button (at the bottom of the page) is to delete the text tags. And for the delete lines, once again, my apologies for the inconvenience, we should have it fixed by next week. And I noticed the improve rating from 3 to 4, guess this means you are getting to like skrbl more & more :)
Date: 3/1/2007 11:24:00 AM User: Michael Richardson Rating: 3 Comment: Great idea! Our company does tons of remote collab, talk about this often.
Things missing our org would need:
- eraser (click on shape/text/image and it goes away)
- shapes (rectangles at a minimum)
- straight lines (shift key?)
- scale images (drag the corner?)
Usability comments:
- icon bar too close to file menu (opens when trying to click toolbar)
- img clipped when selected (very confusing)
- this comment box is too short!
User Info: Firefox 2.0, Windows XP SP2 Response: We are working on getting the eraser out next week, simple shapes and straight lines are part of the planned releases in March. Am noting your other comments and suggestions too, they are very welcome as we are always looking to hear, learn and improve
Date: 3/1/2007 10:48:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 2 Comment: ERASE TOOL
i had to use the FAQ to figure out how to erase a line. it would be way more intuitive to provide an "erase" tool next to the pointer, text, and line draw tools.
also, on yr "rate skrbl" (from 1 to 5) radio buttons right here in the feedback form: is 1 best or worst? Response: Apologies to all for making the erase function so hard to get to, we goofed. We are working on putting an eraser in the drawing toolbar, alongside the draw & selector tools, so you pick the eraser, select the line to erase and click. Far simpler, and how we should have done it in the first place. And 5 is the highest rating.
Date: 3/1/2007 9:14:00 AM User: Le Yann Rating: 3 Comment: Hi, skrbl is a killer app. however, i've got a private session that seems to be public as i've got plenty of hosts and guests in the user list. That makes me unsure about using it for important things. that's the main reason, i've not rated it a 5. Response: A private session should not be accessible to the public, please verify that the checkbox is selected from your My skrbls page. You could test privacy by trying to access the session from another computer WITHOUT logging in. Do let me know if there is still a problem.
Date: 3/1/2007 8:22:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: It looks like you can not write on top of photos. This would be a godsend for architects like myself. I could easily show where things were moving, deleted, etc. Or am i missing something? Nice tool. Response: Err, sorry, that is a bug in our Firefox build that we need to fix. You can draw on top of photos in Internet Explorer and we are working on fixing it in Firefox.
Date: 3/1/2007 7:44:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: How about implementing some hotkey support? Maybe the ability to select regions (to facilitate deleting of drawing and such). Or an eraser. Or both :) And maybe the ability for others to see what you're doing, as you're doing it, as in they see the line being drawn, not just appearing. I think it's awesome and short of making it a better word processor/graphics program (which I realize is a bit out of the original scope). Response: The ability to select regions is in the works, along with the ability to grab and drag a line; part of the repurposing of the selector arrow. We hope to deploy multiple drawing enhancements (and fixes:) over the month of March.
Date: 3/1/2007 2:24:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: I really liked the responsiveness and the ability to share, but the erase needs some major work. We dont have a delete whiteboard feature yet, but it is coming soon.
Date: 2/27/2007 11:22:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: I'd like to see more drawing tools: some basic shapes and an eraser tool like in MS Paint. A few additional colors would be nice too.
One thing I don't like is that even when I have the pointer selected, when I click an empty spot on the board it gives me a text box. It's more of an annoyance really.
Otherwise, I love it. Response: Thank you for your feedback. Yes we do plan on enhancing the drawing features and you should see these in March. The pointer behavior was something we left in to see if users found it useful, your vote against is noted :) In any case this should also change with the coming drawing enhancements.
Date: 2/26/2007 4:38:00 PM User: ict_teacher Rating: Comment: I have just twigged something!! the erase facility in MySkrbls erases the whiteboard content, but not the session itself. To keep track of which sessions have content I have renamed my erased sessions blank, however I think it would be good to be able to delete sessions from MySkrbls too as the session list can easily become too long and rather disorganised. Would it also be possible to be able to order the MySkrbls session list as this would aid a user's personal organisation of sessions? Response: Good suggestions both, we are working on enhancing the My Skrbls page, but will deploy the Delete session & skrbl list sorting features first. Currently your session list is ordered by Date, with the latest on top

We may also offer a premium service in the future ...
Date: 2/23/2007 9:18:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: Is there an eraser for use in drawing mode? Response: No there is no eraser tool on the page, you can either erase an entire line by deleting it or Erase all items from your skrbl Whiteboard from your My-Skrbls page.

bana Response: Sorry, we are on it and will try to find and fix the cause ASAP. An eraser tool by itself is not a problem, the question is how should it behave in a multiuser environment? We will get there, but slowly. The trashbin looks like a popular idea though, we will get it done & thanks.

Date: 2/7/2007 1:40:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: hey, www.skrbl.com/feedback.aspx is different from skrbl.com/feedback.aspx - it doesn't show the feedback of others. I'm not sure how I found this version, but the links on the main page need to point to it. Response: Actually, www.skrbl.com/feedback.aspx and skrbl.com/feedback.aspx are the same page. However for logged in users we filter feedback to show just their own comments. This is so users can easily see their previous comments and answers...
Date: 2/7/2007 12:51:00 AM User: ict_teacher Rating: 4 Comment: the uploading pictures and the doodle tools are great additions - I can't get the erase to work from MySkrbls page (on Firefox or IE) and I still don't get copy and paste when right-clicking on a text comment when using Firefox Response: oops! Thanks for bringing that to our attention, Erase should work fine now. We are working on the Firefox issues now, including text copy.
Date: 2/5/2007 8:15:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: can you add a whiteboard so we can draw too? ...but its cool though Response: skrbl was a text whiteboard, now it is a text and freehand drawing whiteboard... what next?
Date: 2/5/2007 7:12:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: I found your site though http://www.go2web20.net/ and I thought it would allow me to do some "whiteboard" type of stuff. However I’m limited by just text. It would be great if I could draw on it, using line tools and freehand type of tools to make concept ideas ect…. And then share my whiteboard with fellow coworkers ect… and then they could also add their input on it. Thanks! Response: Freehand line drawing had been in the works for some time and coincidentally got deployed the night of your comment. Go ahead try it out, hope you have fun.
Date: 2/4/2007 1:28:00 PM User: goff Rating: 3 Comment: not totally clear about the effect of passwords, privacy, and having up on two machines one as guest. i did some combination of those and lost a bunch of work. So clarifying that would be a good feature. Also the wiki type ability to go backwards would be good at least a version or two, or a trash can things could be recovered from?
This could be a great tool for those of us who multitask on multiple machines and would like to have updated todo list on each one and a great thing for passing a c Response: Sorry that you lost work, that should never happen. I will update the faq today to highlight the difference between passwords and the private flag, and we will also look into versioning.
Date: 2/2/2007 2:41:00 AM User: fairy Rating: 5 Comment: skrbl is awesome......a few more time n I will surely know every good feature of it...
over all skrbl is awesome!!! Response: Thank you, it is great that our users like skrbl so much. We are adding a couple of major features next week so there will be more for you to use and like.
Date: 1/28/2007 1:07:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: Comment: ability to share power point presentations.
pointers, highlighters, drawing objects: squares, ovals, lines, etc. Response: That is a powerful wishlist, once we launch freehand drawing, we plan on enhancing the drawing toolbox. One object at a time:).
Date: 1/27/2007 3:22:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 1 Comment: I wonder why your software does not support unicode. Response: The bug causing problems with Chinese language skrbls has been fixed, pls try it out.
Date: 1/24/2007 12:18:00 PM User: ad560 Rating: Comment: How do you save a session?
How do you delete a session? Response: Sessions are saved online automatically, you can access your saved sessions from the My Skrbls link. To save to your desktop use the file menu, you have the option of saving WYSIWYG view or a print friendly view. The ability to delete a skrbl whiteboard is coming later this week.
Date: 1/23/2007 3:46:00 AM User: ict_teacher Rating: Comment: I discovered skrbl just a couple of days ago (through a Lockergnome email list) and am very excited about its use and development
this feedback thing is ok, but I just get the feeling (probably quite wrongly) that I am sending my comments, observations and suggestions into the virtual ether - feedbackers need feedback too to convince them they are being listened to!!
so how about setting up a user forum? it would would provide a more direct and efficient way of communication to share news Response: You are right, we should improve our feedback mechanism to be more of a user forum. But rest assured in the meantime that we read and respond to every single feedback here and what we get as email, or in response to the blog.
Date: 1/22/2007 8:13:00 PM User: Stanley1 Rating: 5 Comment: Just started having a play, LOVE it
Exactly what I was looking for as a "pick up anywhere" reminder pad.
I'm guessing (hoping!) that one of the enhancements is a freehand drawing tool? Response: Thanks, and yes freehand drawing is coming to skrbl.
Date: 1/21/2007 5:14:00 PM User: ict_teacher Rating: 3 Comment: text font is not retained, a new text box reverts to Arial, I think that once a new font is chosen it should be retained in subsequent text boxes. Response: Good suggestion, we have our hands full at the moment but will address this ASAP.
Date: 1/21/2007 5:00:00 PM User: ict_teacher Rating: 3 Comment: this a tremendous tool, I can see great potential to get young children in schools communicating with one another - it will be good to see how it develops
could a future development be a drawing function - free-hand, basic shapes and straight lines controlled by mouse?
one thing I think you should have is the ability to delete sessions from the users MySkrbl page Response: Thank you, and pls give us a few more days to launch freehand drawing.
Date: 1/21/2007 4:08:00 PM User: ict_teacher Rating: 3 Comment: I do not get a full context menu when using skrbl with Firefox 2.0.0.1, but only Delete.
The full context menu does appear in IE6 however. Response: The firefox browser does not support copy paste, thats why the skrbl context menu does not display them.
Date: 1/21/2007 1:30:00 PM User: pher Rating: 5 Comment: i can use this at my office for free? there are ten of us in one room at work and this is a key app! Response: Yes this version of skrbl is free, pls continue to use it at your office... with our thanks.
Date: 1/21/2007 12:13:00 PM User: pkoestler Rating: 2 Comment: I can't see any more use to this than email if it doesn't provide the ability to draw on this whiteboard.
If the rating goes from 1-5, from sucks to genius, the currently it's a 2, add drawing capabilities and it will be an instant 4.
Response: Sorry to keep everyone waiting for the freehand drawing. We hope to release picture upload and freehand drawing this month.
Date: 1/21/2007 12:05:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: Great idea, works very well. I would like to see it capable of providing a mathematics toolbox so I can run through equations and formulas with colleagues and peers. I believe a pen/pencil style writing tool would also help by creating ease of making quick doodles and such. Nice job so far. Response: The pen/pencil freehand drawing is coming soon, the math toolbox... a little more time.
Date: 1/21/2007 11:37:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: This is awesome. I've noticed a problem on Firefox on the Mac, though, with pasting pictures. Can't get the context menu to appear, as the moment there is a click on the screen, no matter if it's left or right click, a text box automatically appears. Since mostly what I would need it for is sharing graphics, this is a pity...
Thanks,
Susan Response: Copy/Paste is a problem in firefox, our upload pictures functionality (coming soon) should circumvent that.
Date: 1/21/2007 10:21:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: I think the idea is fantastic - something I need very much for the work I do: collaborative mind mapping. Skrbl is not working properly in FireFox 2.0: The toolbars do not activate when clicking 'text' or 'file'. Clicking anywhere outside the skrbl work area renders the entire screen white, with only the blue page title at the top. It would also be good if I was able to resize the text boxes. Response: Hmm, we will do some more testing on firefox 2.0 and fix the problem if we can duplicate it. And do track the blog we have other things planned you may like.
Date: 1/21/2007 8:52:00 AM User: MeanJean Rating: 4 Comment: This is a cool idea but it won't let me paste a photo on the page! Response: Currently skrbl only supports pictures pasted from the Web, loading pictures from your desktop will come within the next 10 days.
Date: 1/18/2007 6:38:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 5 Comment: skrbl is a good server, but it is not support chinese, and the chinese show worry ...
gcgcggcc@gmail.com Response: Sorry, we have been working on this issue (logged it as a bug) but it will take some more time, I will update you once we have it fixed.
Date: 1/16/2007 1:43:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: When will you implement the ability to upload photos directly? I don't want to harass you on this just want to know roughly when Response: This month... ASAP :(, do check the blog
Date: 1/15/2007 11:32:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: Nice. But I would like freehand just like it is in a whiteboard, say for example vyew.com .
Manish Verma. Response: We aim to please, do check the blog
Date: 1/14/2007 12:40:00 PM User: vpaley Rating: 4 Comment: I'm lovin' it but having a problem with text boxes jumping around all over the place, difficulty resizing. They seem too sensitive. Can't rely on a box staying put or being able to resize without a problem. Hoping to use it at school but can't risk text boxes jumping around and not stretching out when I want them to. Hope this isn't too picky.
Thanks for the new font. Response: We will get the boxes to behave better. And if you dont mind my asking, how do you intend to use skrbl in school? We would love to know.
Date: 1/13/2007 4:08:00 AM User: Louis_Cypher Rating: 5 Comment: Great Idea Guys!
Simple but quite innovative - damnit I should have ideas like dis!? *g*
But how can I get pictures started?! Thing with links for flickr didn't worked out for me - no contextmenu in firefox!?
(Help: greatly appreciated: Holger_schmidt82@web.de)
Anyway looking forward for new action to happen -
supportin u in the background!
Kind regards from Germany
Holger Schmidt a.k.a Louis_Cypher Response: Glad you like it, thanks. Yes copy paste is an issue in Firefox we will have to work around. Meanwhile please bear with us.
Date: 1/10/2007 5:21:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: Very impressing, Just what I was looking for...
About technical quality:
Registering JavaScript events inline in html, onmousesomenthing for example, is so 1997. There ara better ways http://www.quirksmode.org/js/events_tradmod.html
Also more efficient use of css would be appreciated to avoid unnecessary bloat. Response: Thanks, and your technical comments are on the button, waiting on things to settle down a bit, & BTW PP is a great source.
Date: 1/9/2007 12:22:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: I just started a skrbl page but I don't see a way to make it private? Response: You can set the private flag for a skrbl session from the my skrbls page, please see the FAQ. BTW, you have to login manage your sessions.
Date: 1/4/2007 7:25:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: It's a great idea, but each time I log in - or even if I just go from a skrbl to view 'my skrbls' and return, nothing is saved!
PS - is 1 or 5 the best rating? Response: That shouldnt be happening as skrbl saves automatically, please check the timestamp on the bottom of your skrbl whiteboard, it should update periodically as you edit/enter text. And 5 is the best rating
Date: 1/2/2007 10:12:00 AM User: aliflores Rating: 3 Comment: It would be a great idea to add some common shapes as arrows, brackets, etc. It'll easy interaction! Response: Thank you for your suggestion, we will keep it in mind as we implement new features.
Date: 12/29/2006 6:21:00 PM User: buso Rating: 3 Comment: I'VE JUST WRITTEN SOME WORDS. IT IS EASY AND EFFICIENT. I'D LIKR TO DO BETTER Response: We will keep trying to improve skrbl
Date: 12/28/2006 12:06:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: I talk to much.
I was saying that it would be good if you added some market specific options. like text layout and formatting options (snap to grid, etc) for publishers. As well syntax checkers and text highlighting for programmers. So coders can code and colaberate through skrbl, then paste the code on their own machines for execution. Response: Can you suggest some good tools we can mash with for syntax checking etc.?
Date: 12/28/2006 12:02:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: A nice little tool you have I'll come back in Jan/Feb to see what new features you've added.
Some features I would like to see:
1. limit attendee's permissions to the pad (give read only access)
2. the ability to draw on graphics. (Not sure if it could be done without creating some kind of install app.
3. Some way to save the skrbl pad as a pdf or HTML. (File->Save as doesn't work, and it would be nicer if it saves as one html file)
As well you might want to add some market specific op Response: You should see some of these soon...
Date: 12/27/2006 2:52:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: Comment: sorry, i should read more carefully about the pics. thanks again.
Date: 12/27/2006 2:50:00 PM User: vpaley Rating: 4 Comment: Hi, this looks excellent as I will never get a whiteboard in my class. With primary kids though, I would really like to see a font such as comic sans which has the standard letter /a/.
Also, I am having a bit of a problem putting pics on my pages. Will you elaborate abit in your FAQ as to how to do this. Looking forward to your updates. ...and thanks so much. Response: We will try to get the font in, also, it would be nice to know how you use skrbl in your class.
Date: 12/26/2006 9:56:00 AM User: nowcleomind Rating: 2 Comment: Question. Is there a way to save a session to my computer and delete once finished? Archieving?
I like what I see so far could be very useful
I don't know if you are tracking my address so
pg_haslam@hotmail.com Response: Not yet, but we will be giving the ability to save your skrbls soon, in January
Date: 12/24/2006 6:23:00 PM User: wazzam Rating: 5 Comment: I see this tool heading towards being able to have your own desktop accessible from anywhere and everywhere. If you can integrate Instant messaging, along with VOIP it would be gr88t !!!! Response: We are building up skrbl one feature at a time, lets see where this goes.
Date: 12/23/2006 10:46:00 AM User: Fairy Rating: 5 Comment: skrbl is really good...as its new to me I dont know how to operate it yet..but i will soon find that out too.. Response: skrbl is simple, just point, click and type. There is more information in the FAQ
Date: 12/21/2006 4:22:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: This looks great but every time I bring up the page to stat using it, my browser freezes up. I'm using Firefox 1.5 on RedHat Linux. It does work on the Windows Firefox browser. Is this a known problem? Response: hmmm, we couldnt duplicate this in test (CentOS 4.4 running Firefox 1.5) it should work fine on linux - anybody else seeing a problem?

Please let me know and is there any tutorial available?

Hans Response: Copy paste on firefox is an issue at this time. skrbl does not support picture upload yet, however you can copy paste photos from the web. No tutorial, but you could find some useful tips on our FAQ
Date: 12/14/2006 2:00:00 AM User: Anonymous Rating: 1 Comment: When I type in Chinese characters, it always shows ??? in other page. But it shows correctly in original page. I hope it can support chinese characters Response: Sorry about that, we will get that fixed and have you skrbling in Chinese soon (January 2007 ?)
Date: 12/13/2006 11:03:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 4 Comment: would also be great if we can have hyperlinking to the web adresses we add on to the pad :-) Response: After typing in the URL try hitting ENTER or space (rather than clicking out of the tab), the skrbl editor should pick it up.
Date: 12/13/2006 10:36:00 PM User: Anonymous Rating: 3 Comment: Looks useful, I like it, but the problem is I keep getting the 'service unavailable' message, when are you getting that fixed? Response: Sorry about that, we had an unexpected surge in skrbl usage last week and ran into availability issues. We have ramped up capacity and will keep tweaking.
Date: 12/11/2006 5:33:00 PM User: wazzam Rating: 5 Comment: if we can somehow be able to customize our skrbl pad such as be able to add a background wallpaper, change colour, be able to access IM etc Response: Customization is a feature we agonize over, our current thinking - is we need to prioritize functionality first.

Date: 12/10/2006 10:01:00 PM User: wazzam Rating: 5 Comment: sorry, you can decrease the width too but the extending box is just on the left and right. It would make things easier if we can have the box on the top and the bottom as well
Date: 12/10/2006 9:07:00 PM User: wazzam Rating: Comment: you can decrease the width but not the length !!! Response: Yes, the text editor increases height automatically in response to text entry, the width option is so you can control line width.
Date: 12/10/2006 7:51:00 PM User: wazzam Rating: 4 Comment: Great Stuff, the option of coloured boxes would be nice along with double clicking to add note rather than a single slick as its a bit annoying with the single click Response: We go with Single click because it is standard in browsers and our fingers appreciate the rest :)
Date: 11/22/2006 2:42:00 AM User: shafiq Rating: 4 Comment: This is a tool I was looking for. I have spent hours blundering with file sharing, web storage, e-mail, etc. to have a place I can jot down notes/thoughts/tasks. Thanks to the Skrbl team for writing this tool. I am looking forward to use Skrbl and see how the tool shapes up from beta to its final release. Response: Glad you like it, spread the news, tell your friends.

Date: 8/17/2006 9:22:00 PM User: shafiq Rating: Comment: If I click and drag the mouse across multiple text boxes I am expecting all the text boxes to get selected. So that I can delete those in one shot. Or most probably copy the text boxes as is to another tab on skrbl.

2) Whiteboard sharing, with friends/family.
3) Do we have versioning?
Date: 8/2/2006 5:55:00 PM User: shafiq Rating: Comment: I can paste a picture into skrbl, but as soon as I click anywhere it gets lost into cyberspace. If I copy a picture along with some html from a web page that sticks in skrbl. I just can't paste a simple jpeg/gif, etc.
Date: 8/2/2006 5:51:00 PM User: shafiq Rating: Comment: At a minimum it would be great to undo some text I deleted or added. Undo does not work right now.
